Gnarls Barkley Cancels Reunion Tour Dates

The first Gnarls Barkley tour in 18 years is off, days before opening night, and Toronto loses its only Canadian date with no reason given.

Gnarls Barkley Cancels Reunion Tour Dates

The Reunion Tour Ends Before It Starts

Gnarls Barkley has cancelled the entire To Whom It Still Concerns Tour, calling off a nine city North American run less than a week before it was set to open on November 5 at The Masonic in San Francisco. Ticketmaster listings now mark the dates as cancelled from coast to coast, including Los Angeles on November 7, Atlanta on November 10, Detroit on November 13, Boston on November 15 and Silver Spring on November 19, with the November 28 finale at Chicago House of Blues also gone.

The cancellation lands hard because of what the tour represented. Live Nation announced the run on September 18 as the first Gnarls Barkley tour in 18 years, built around Atlanta, the third and final album from singer CeeLo Green and producer Danger Mouse, released in March through 10k Projects and Atlantic Records. Fans who waited nearly two decades for a live return got an announcement in September and a cancellation at the end of October, with the comeback chapter closing before a single show was played.

Toronto Loses Its Only Canadian Date

Toronto was holding the only Canadian stop on the route, a November 22 show at HISTORY, and that date is cancelled as well. New York tells the story of how fast this unravelled, because demand there had grown the run to two Irving Plaza nights on November 24 and 25, and both are now cancelled too. Support acts Gallant and Duckwrth, who were set to split the opening duties across the tour, lose the run along with everyone else.

No public explanation has come with the news. Reporting from AllHipHop, Pollstar and the San Francisco Chronicle all point to the same gap, neither the act nor promoter Live Nation has said why the tour was pulled. The one complication that was already public involved Danger Mouse. His representative had said the producer never planned to perform on the run, while confirming CeeLo Green had permission to use the Gnarls Barkley name. The shows had even been rebilled as CeeLo Green performing Gnarls Barkley, so fans were already buying a one half version of the duo before the whole run disappeared.

What Fans Should Do Next

The practical part is simple. Ticketmaster has told buyers refunds are coming automatically to the original payment method, with Pollstar reporting a window of 14 to 21 days and no action needed from ticket holders. Anyone who bought through resale should watch that platform for its own cancellation process, since the refund flows through whoever took the payment.

What remains is the music and a question the culture will keep asking. Atlanta was billed as a final album, and a final album usually gets a final walk around the stage. Instead, the Gnarls Barkley story pauses at the exact moment it was supposed to restart, with a Toronto room that will sit quiet on November 22 and a fan base still waiting for someone to explain why.
